Weekly Review #275: Are you ready for Airspace World 2025?

Written by Vincent Lambercy | January 15 2025
Before we know it, it will be time for Airspace World 2025. The annual CANSO event will take place from the 13 - 15 May 2025 in its new venue: Lisbon! If you are an exhibitor, your preparations are likely ramping up. But, what about visitors? The show has evolved a lot over the last few years, with new places, new days in the week, and a new name. But what hasn't changed is its duration.

The event is two and a half days full of visits, meetings, presentations and more. Plus the evenings are usually pretty busy too. If you think it is too early to prepare, consider this: I received my first invitation for an evening event by the middle of November 2024. With very limited time, it's not always easy to organise an event at Airspace World, or even to choose which events to attend. Wait too long and you'll miss some, end up with calendar conflicts, or both.

Schedule your important meetings soon, plan the events you want to attend in advance, and keep some space in your agenda. Things change often. And if you haven't started your preparation yet, let me give you a good tip: book your hotel asap! Accommodation prices in Lisbon are soaring already.

Shall we meet there? Don't hesitate to let me know, because my calendar is filling up rapidly too!

  • 23 Norwegian airports to be remotely operated with Indra’s air traffic control system in Avinor’s Remote Tower Centre- Indra has signed a contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS to deliver tower and communication systems for an additional seven new airports that will be operated from Avinor’s Remote Tower Centre in Bodø, Norway. The centre is the world’s largest of its kind and new airports have been gradually added since its opening in 2022. A prerequisite for the extension is that each operator can operate up to three airports from the same working position, enabled by Indra’s InNOVA air traffic control system. Indra’s centralised remote tower centre significantly enhances cost efficiencies and the operational flexibility at low-traffic airports.

  • Contrails Explained: Why They Form and What They Mean - NATS Blog- Contrails, the wispy white streaks that sometimes form behind aircraft, have long been a subject of interest – sparking debates about their environmental impact, their role in climate change, and even fuelling conspiracy theories. While there is consensus that contrails have an adverse effect on the environment, scientific understanding still needs to improve to calculate their exact warming impact, and there is less agreement as to how much and over what timescales such effects occur.
